Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 31 October 2023: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that the Election Commission (EC) has no option. The EC must hold elections on time as a part of the constitutional obligation. The CEC said this after a meeting with the United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Peter D. Haas, at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Tuesday, October 31. Earlier, he had a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner at 10:30 am.

He said, "Elections will not be held if the environment is unfavorable, so that there is no such misunderstanding among the people. I want to make it clear that the elections must be held within the prescribed manner and time. We are firm on that."

CEC said, "Peter Haas wanted to know about the election environment. We have made it clear from our side that we have no option. The Election Commission has to conduct elections on time as per the constitutional obligation. Political parties have different options. They can also participate in the elections. , may not do it again. They can contest 300 seats individually, they can also contest in alliances. There are various options for political parties but the Election Commission has no such option."

Qazi Habibul Awal said, "We are going strongly for the elections. Many times there are talks about favorable and unfavorable environment for elections. These are very meaningful. Whether it is favorable or unfavorable for the elections, we hope that the more favorable the environment is, we hope for the end. , most of the political parties will participate in the elections and make the environment favorable."

To a question, he said, "Peter Haas believes that there will be a political solution through dialogue. This is what we have said and believe. We do not think that it will be solved by showing force on the streets. Peter also said the same. He also said that the political parties should sit at the same table. This problem will be solved through the tea cycle."
