Elections EC is committed to creating a level playing field
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 12 October 2023: Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said that the Commission has assured that the Election Commission is determined to prepare a level playing field for the parties that will participate in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. Also, the commission is determined to organize a fair and peaceful election.
Trinamool BNP sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner on Thursday, September 12. Trinamool BNP Chairperson Samsher Mobin Chowdhury, General Secretary Taimur Alam Khandkar and Trinamool BNP founder Nazmul Hooda's daughter and party's Executive Chairperson Antara Selima Hooda wrote to the CEC. The secretary said these things after the meeting with Trinamool BNP.
The EC secretary said, "Trinamool BNP is a registered political party in Bangladesh. A delegation of 18 members led by its chairperson Shamser Mobin Chowdhury had a meeting with the Election Commission. In this meeting, they had an open discussion. Besides, they presented 12 recommendations to the Election Commission. Inform us in writing. Among the 12 proposals, they requested the Election Commission to take action on the legal aspects for holding fair and free elections. In particular, publication of results at polling stations, results signed by returning officers from polling stations, handing over results to candidates' polling agents. They brought the issue to the discussion."
When asked about the EC's role in controlling the law and order administration, the main obstacle to the level playing field, the secretary said, "Firstly, the commission has assured them that the power given to the commission in the light of the law and the constitution, the commission will fully implement that power and will strive to implement it."
Even if BNP does not come, Trinamool will go to the polls with BNP, are you satisfied with this? To such a question, the EC secretary said, "No, no, no. The Election Commission expects everyone's cooperation to organize a fair and peaceful election by applying the power given to the commission by the law, the power given in the constitution."
