Dhaka, October 28: The headmasters of government secondary schools in the capital have voted in favour of admitting new students only after conducting exams next year. Emphasis has been laid on taking the test in nine steps in three clusters in compliance with the Covid-19 hygiene rules. If it is not possible to take the exam in any way, then the heads of the educational institutions have offered to admit students in the first to eighth classes through lottery.

The head of the institution made the proposal at a virtual meeting on Tuesday (October 26th) on student enrollment in secondary schools amid the Covid-19 situation. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Syed Golam Farooq, Director General, Directorate Of Secondary & Higher Education (Maushi).

According to the meeting sources, like last year, the headmasters of government secondary schools in the capital have insisted on admission with the examination this time.

Although 41 government primary schools in the capital took three days of exams in three clusters, this time they have proposed to take exams for a total of 9 days by dividing each cluster into three days.

Even if the online admission test is conducted, it will not be possible for everyone to participate in it. For this reason, the school principals have proposed to take a small number of physical admission tests in phases.

Sources further said that some institutions have offered to admit students through lottery from first class to eighth class. However, if the lottery system is adopted, many meritorious students will be deprived of the opportunity of admission in government secondary schools, said the director general of Maushi. So if it is not possible to take the test in any way, the student has to be admitted through lottery, he said.
