Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar made the announcement at noon on Monday (May 2), citing mobile operators.

He said the number of SIMs that left the capital in three days till May 1 is about 72 lakh five thousand. If approximately 3 million SIMs have gone out of Dhaka in the previous two days, the total number of SIMs has crossed crores. On May 1, a maximum of 29 lakh SIMs left Dhaka.

The minister said on Sunday that it was just SIM information, not of the people. Because many people have more than one SIM. Again many families have left Dhaka, whose children or teenagers do not have any mobile phone or SIM card. According to the information received from the mobile operators, approximately one crore SIMs have gone out of Dhaka in five days.

The minister said Grameenphone has the largest number of SIMs that left Dhaka this Eid, and at least is of Teletalk.
