Dhaka, April 20: The month of Ramadan ends in 29 days and tomorrow Friday (April 21) the moon of the month of Shawwal can be seen, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said. Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, is to be celebrated in the country on April 22 (Saturday).

The National Moon Sighting Committee will hold a meeting at Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Friday to decide the date of Eid-ul-Fitr celebration. However, according to Islamic Shari'a, sighting of the moon with the naked eye is a condition at the beginning of the lunar month.

The Meteorological Department has published the coordinates of the moon for the month of Shawwal. Moon coordinates in Dhaka at sunset on 20th, 21st and 22nd April are said to be the second day of Chandra Tithi at sunset on 21st April. Moon's age at sunset will be 1.3405 days. The scheduled time for moon sighting on Friday is from 6:25 to 7:00. The duration of the evening moon will be 53 minutes and 8 seconds. According to the moon coordinate report, the moon will be seen in Bangladesh.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said, "According to the calculation of the moon's coordinates, the moon is supposed to be seen from Bangladesh on Friday. Now is not the rainy season, there won't be any clouds in the sky like that. So we think it will be seen from some place."

The National Moon Sighting Committee decided to moon sight after taking information from District Moon Sighting Committees headed by District Commissioners in 64 districts. Officials of the Islamic Foundation are member secretaries of the district moon sighting committee. The officials of the foundation informed the decision of the meeting of the district committee by phone to the national committee. National Moon Sighting Committee is chaired by the Minister of State for Religious Affairs.

If for some reason the moon of Shawwal is not sighted on Friday, then 30 days of Ramadan will be completed. In that case, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on April 23 (Sunday). The holiday will also increase by one day, there will be a holiday on April 24. But if Eid falls on April 22, there will be a holiday till April 23.
