Eight killed in gunfight between two armed terrorist groups in Bandarban

Dhaka, April 7: A massive gunfight took place between two groups in Khamtampara area of Rowanchari Upazila of Bandarban. Eight people were killed in this incident. On Friday (April 7) at noon, the police recovered the bodies of eight people from Khamtam neighborhood of the upazila.

According to the police and law enforcement forces, there was a shooting incident between two armed terrorist groups in Khatampara area of Ruma-Roangchari road on Thursday night. Later in the morning eight bodies were recovered by the police from the spot and sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue. The police could not reveal the name and identity of the deceased in this incident.

Rawangchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Khorshed Alam Chowdhury said that eight people were killed in the shootings between two armed terrorist groups on Thursday night. After this incident, many local residents fled and stayed in Rowangchari. They are being fed. He said that it is not yet confirmed which terrorist group the shooting took place.

Bandarban Superintendent of Police Md. Tariqul Islam said, around 11:30 on Friday, we received information that some bodies were lying in Khamtampara of Rowangchari upazila. On receiving the information, we went to the spot and recovered the dead bodies and sent them to the Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue. As far as I know, this incident took place in the firing between two armed terrorist groups. I have yet to identify the names and addresses of any of those killed. Our search continues.

Locals said that the sound of gunshots was heard in the morning. The police were informed after seeing the bullet-ridden bodies of eight people there. Police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.

Abdul Mannan, OC of Rawangchari police station, said, "Eight bullet-riddled bodies have been recovered from Khamtam Para area of Rawangchari. The bodies are being brought to the Bandarban Sadar Hospital mortuary. However, it is not known who killed them. It is not possible to tell which group the bodies belong to."
