Dhaka, February 11: The ruling party Awami League has submitted a recommendation of 10 names to the search committee for the post of Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners. The party's information and research secretary Selim Mahmud and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan submitted the list of names to Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division Shafiul Azim at the Secretariat on Friday afternoon.

Selim Mahmud said, "We have given a list of 10 names to the search committee."

He said a letter was sent to the Awami League on Tuesday requesting the Awami League to send the names of not more than 10 qualified persons and their CVs in the form of a proposal.

The list of names was finalized at a meeting of the presidium chaired by Awami League president Hon'ble Prime Minister on Wednesday. Accordingly, on behalf of the Awami League, we have submitted a list of 10 qualified persons with brief CVs in a sealed form along with the forwarding letter signed by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader along with the Chairman of the Search Committee at 12:30 pm on Friday.

A six-member search committee was formed on February 5 in the light of the law passed on January 27 to appoint the EC. The search committee asked the registered political parties to submit their nominations for the posts of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner by February 10.
