Dhaka, February 17: General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that the European Union (EU) wants to see the upcoming national elections as participatory. Awami League also wants a good, error-free, and fair election. However, fearing to lose the election, BNP is resorting to tactics. As in 2013-14, Agun is again trying to overthrow the government and seize power by destabilizing the country by relying on terrorism.

He said these to reporters at a briefing after a courtesy meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union in the capital's Gulshan on Thursday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister said, BNP does not believe in dialogue. They did not go to the dialogue between the President and the Election Commission. BNP came to the embassy quietly, did not inform anyone. Awami League has received the invitation. Everyone has been informed.

Obaidul Quader said, Awami League does not listen to anyone's instructions, it follows the instructions of the constitution.

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the upcoming elections will be credible, fair and free. The Election Commission will play an independent and authoritative role. Sheikh Hasina's government will provide all kinds of support to the Election Commission. Awami League is preparing ahead of the next election.

Obaidul Quader said that representatives of seven European Union countries were present in the meeting. There were meaningful discussions on various issues including elections and trade of the country.

He said that February 15 is a tainted day in the history of democracy in Bangladesh. On February 15, BNP had set an unprecedented example of voterless elections and farce in the name of elections in Bangladesh. On this day in 1996, BNP, the evil power that created obstacles in the path of democracy and dictatorship, plunged the electoral system and democracy of Bangladesh into darkness through farce in the name of so-called elections.
