Dhaka, July 10: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter to Immigration banning the emigration of e-commerce platform Evaly's managing director Mohammad Russell and chairman Shamima Nasrin. An ACC source said on Friday (July 9).

The letter was sent after officials feared that Mohammad Russell, the managing director of Evaly, and his wife, the chairman of the company, could leave the country at any time.

Based on the recommendation of the Commerce Ministry, the ACC formed a two-member committee to investigate the irregularities in Evaly. Later, the ACC committee applied for a ban on the travel of these two officials of the country. On Friday, the application was sent to the court and the Special Branch of Police (SB).

An ACC official said, "The ACC has news that Evaly chairman Shamima Nasrin and MD Russell may leave the country. Therefore, a letter has been sent to the immigration to ban them from travelling abroad. The same application was sent there as there was an obligation of court permission. We have already sent a letter to immigration as there is a rule to send the application within 15 days of this ban. The application will be heard 15 days after the court opens."

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that in November last year, the ministry sent an allegation against Evali to the ACC to investigate the veracity of the claims, including paper-cutting of news published in various dailies in the country. In this context, a two-member team of the ACC Money Laundering Division started the search operation.

It is learned that the complaint sent by the Ministry of Commerce was- the company was charging huge amount of money in advance from its customers by making tempting offers but not delivering the goods to the customers within the stipulated time or delivering other products, failed to deliver the ordered products, not giving back the money etc.

Later, another complaint was sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission in the light of the Bangladesh Bank's report against Evaly from the Ministry of Commerce. Recently, on the basis of the recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce and after receiving the complaint from the Central Bank, the Commission decided to conduct an investigation in connection with the previous complaint.
