Dhaka, November 28: Extraction of gas from the abandoned well in Biyanibazar has started. As a result, about 8 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid transmission lines from these wells per day.

Abdul Jalil Pramanik, General Manager (Administration) of Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL), said this. Before this, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) started drilling the abandoned No. 1 well in Biyanibazar last September.

Abdul Jalil Pramanik said, "We have completed all the experimental work on Sunday afternoon. After the gas pressure test (testing), all the technical preparations for supplying gas to the national grid have been completed at the final stage. If everything goes well, gas supply to the transmission line will start from this well tomorrow (Monday) morning."

He said that it will be possible to supply 8 million gas per day to the grid line from this well.

The Biyanibazar gas field is under Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL). Seven million cubic feet of gas per day is being supplied to the national transmission line from well number 2 of this gas field.

According to SGFL sources, gas extraction started in 1991 from well number 1 of Biyanibazar gas field. It was closed in 2014. Mining resumed in 2016, but was stopped again at the end of that year. The well was abandoned since early 2017. After that, BAPEX found gas reserves by conducting exploration in that well. In view of this, the re-excavation (work over) of the well started on September 10. After the re-excavation, the gas reserves in the well can be confirmed from last November 10. After the gas is pressure tested, it is prepared to supply the gas to the national transmission line quickly from the well.
