Dhaka, May 6: A written request has been made by the family to the government to lift the ban on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia going abroad for better treatment. Khaleda Zia's younger brother Shamim Iskander visited Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal's Dhanmondi home around 8pm on Wednesday (May 5). At that time, he made a written request to the Home Minister to lift the ban on Khaleda Zia going abroad for better treatment.

Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment at the CCU of Evercare Hospital in the capital due to coronavirus infection. She is suffering from uncontrolled diabetes and shortness of breath, doctors said.

In this regard, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that Khaleda Zia's family had informed him that she needed medical treatment abroad. The Prime Minister is very humane in these matters. We are looking at the application positively. The sentence has been suspended as he is looking positively and she has been given the opportunity of treatment at the place of her choice.

The minister said an application has been sent to the law minister on what can be done at the stage. The ministry's opinion will actually be the next decision.

According to a source close to the BNP, Khaleda may be taken to London today if permission is granted. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the CCU of the hospital after contracting coronavirus, will leave for London for advanced treatment as soon as she gets official permission from the government.

Sources close to the BNP chairperson said she would be flown to London via Singapore on a chartered flight anytime on Thursday (May 6). Khaleda Zia's personal medical team and family members will also be present.

They said an ambulance was even ready to take Khaleda Zia from the hospital to the airport. Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted to Ever Care Hospital in the capital on April 27. SHe was transferred to CCU last Monday after she developed shortness of breath.
