Farewell meeting of Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswami with PM Sheikh Hasina

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 15: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami on Wednesday met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh emphasized the need to work together with neighboring countries to ensure sustainable development of the region for the greater welfare of the people.

"There may be some concerns with the neighbors. But, we can resolve them through discussion and move forward," she said.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Zahid Tushar briefed the journalists.

During the meeting, the Indian High Commissioner described Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to India as very successful and congratulated her for the visit.

Doraiswami praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's dynamic leadership through which Bangladesh-India relations reached new heights and the overall socio-economic development of Bangladesh.

He said, under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, bilateral relations will be stronger in the future. He expressed hope that the next generation of the two countries will benefit from the existing relationship.

Sheikh Hasina praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. She recalled her life in exile in India after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975.

The Prime Minister congratulated the outgoing High Commissioner on his new appointment and wished him a bright and successful career.

In the meeting, the Indian High Commissioner emphasized on increasing cooperation in trade between the two neighboring countries. He expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the Prime Minister, her government, and the people of Bangladesh for the support and guidance he received from Sheikh Hasina's government during his stay in Dhaka.

"I thank you (Prime Minister) very much," the high commissioner was quoted as saying.

The Indian High Commissioner presented a portrait of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the meeting and the Prime Minister presented the High Commissioner with a book, saree, and replica of a boat.

Prime Minister's Ambassador at Large M. Ziauddin and her Principal Secretary Dr. Ahmad Kaykaus were present at this time.
