Fear of deteriorating flood situation in nine districts

Dhaka, August 28: The flood situation in nine districts of the country may deteriorate in the next 24 hours. In addition, some rivers may exceed the danger mark due to rising water levels. The matter was reported in a press release issued by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Bangladesh Water Development Board on Friday (August 26th).

It said the flood situation in Kurigram, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur and Chandpur districts could worsen in the next 24 hours. Besides, in the next 24 to 48 hours, the water of Jamuna river may cross the danger line in Bahadurabad, Fulchhari and Mathura.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, water levels in various rivers, including the Brahmaputra and Jamuna, are rising, which could continue for the next 48 hours. However, the water level in the Ganga is declining which may continue for the next 48 hours. On the other hand, the water level of Padma river is stable, but might increase in the next 24 hours.

The water level in the major rivers in the north-east of the country is declining, which may continue for the next 48 hours. Besides, in the next 24 hours, the water level of Teesta river may remain stable and close to the danger level.

Besides, water of eight rivers of the country is flowing over the danger line at 12 points, it has been informed in the notification.
