Fire Incident Fire at Elephant Road: 1 injured, 6 rescued
Dhaka, March 28: One person was injured in the incident of fire in the 9th floor Sheltech Sierra Computer City Market adjacent to Bata Signal on Elephant Road in the capital. Besides, six people trapped on the roof of the building were rescued.
Director of Fire Service (Operation and Maintenance) Lt. Col. Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury informed the matter after controlling the fire on Monday (March 27) around 9:30 pm.
He said that no fatality has been reported in the fire so far. The fire was confined to the fifth floor due to the prompt action of fire service personnel. The situation is under control.
He also said that the fire started in a computer shop on the fifth floor of the building. 3-4 shops in the market were burnt. The fire was confined to that floor. A fire stinger was used in the building after the fire broke out. However, the building did not have adequate emergency exits.
The fire service received information about the fire in the market around 7:30 pm. On receiving the information, two units went to the spot first. Eight more units joined later. The fire was brought under control at around 9:20 pm after about two hours with the efforts of 10 units.
