Fire at police headquarters, national emergency service 999 temporarily closed

Dhaka, April 4: The fire in Bangabazar of the capital spread to the barracks of the police headquarters. Due to this, the service of National Emergency Service 999 has been temporarily suspended. Police Headquarters requested to contact the local police station or fire station in case of emergency. A fire broke out in the four-storey building of the police headquarters barracks on Tuesday (April 4).

On the surface, it can be seen that five markets of Bangabazar have been burnt and mixed with the ground. The fire also spread to the four-storey barracks bordering the boundary wall of the police headquarters. The police headquarters was alerted that the fire might spread.

Forty-eight units of fire service work to control the fire in Bangabazar. Members of the Army, Navy and Air Force have been working since morning to control the terrible fire with the help of the fire service. Besides, police, RAB and Ansar members are engaged in maintaining law and order.

In this regard, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, "We brought five water cannons from Rajarbagh and started working with the fire service to control the fire. We have supplied about two lakh liters of water from our water reservoir. Two thousand of our force has performed duty in this area."

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, "We immediately rushed to the scene after receiving the news of the fire in the morning. By quarter past seven, all senior officers reached the spot and joined in controlling the situation. We arrived and saw a severe fire, the fire service was working from all sides."

Regarding the fire at the police headquarters, he said, "There was a fire in one of our barracks. All our members who were there managed to get out safely. But they could not take out the goods. Now we have to find out what is the damage to the documents and goods."

Regarding the attack on the fire service headquarters, the IGP said, "You have seen the situation, there are thousands of people here. We went immediately after receiving the information about the attack, and then brought the situation under control. Later, action will be taken to identify those involved."

In response to another question, he said, "When the incident happened, there was no prior preparation. Slowly we increased the force, took full control of the situation. Now the whole situation is completely under our control. We have also kept the traffic management in order. Due to which, even after such a big incident, Dhaka Traffic was moving."
