First Guard of Honor given to the President at Bangabhaban

Dhaka, April 26: President Md Sahabuddin took the first formal salute on Tuesday at the south-west part of the Credential ground of Bangabhaban. After taking oath yesterday, the first guard of honor was given to the Head of State at Bangabhaban today. The President inspected the guard and received the salute.

Since the President was the first to attend his office last evening, no formal guard of honor could be provided. So this program was held in the morning. Around 10:30 am family members and Bangabhaban officials witnessed the event.

A fine contingent of the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR) gave him a guard of honor as part of the ceremony. A band consisting of the Army, Navy and Air Force played the welcome tune.

As the country's 22nd president yesterday, freedom fighter and veteran politician Md Sahabuddin succeeded the outgoing president Md Abdul Hamid through an oath ceremony at the historic Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban.

Family members, including President Sahabuddin's wife Dr Rebecca Sultana and son Arshad Adnan, came to Bangabhaban in a motor procession from his house in Gulshan yesterday at 8:50 pm.

On reaching the Bangabhaban, the President was welcomed at the main gate by a cavalry contingent of the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR). From there, when he reached the gate of the main building, the officials of the Bangabhaban welcomed him with flowers.

Senior military and civilian officials including Secretary of the President's Office, Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam, Press Secretary Md. Zainal Abedin and Secretary (Joint) Md. Wahidul Islam Khan were present.
