First shipment of Indian onion arrives through Darshana port

Dhaka, April 1: A large consignment of onions from India arrived at Darshana port in Chuadanga first by train. Bangladesh Trading Corporation (TCB) is said to have imported these onions as an importer.

On Sunday (March 31) at 5:30 pm, this consignment of onions arrived at Darshana International Railway Port.

Station Manager Mirza Kamrul Hasan said that Bangladesh Trading Corporation (TCB) imported onions from India. The first consignment reached Darshana port on Sunday afternoon. A total of 1,650 metric tons of onions are imported in 42 wagons. Imported Indian onion-laden wagons will be taken from Darshana International Railway Port to Sirajganj market at night. After that, arrangements will be made to release the onion and send it to the various departments and district cities of the country.

Atiyar Rahman Habu, Mayor of Darshana Town and General Secretary of Railway Port C&F Association, said that the government decided to import onions from India to keep the market stable during the month of Ramadan.

Chairman of Chuadanga Zilla Parishad and President of Damurhuda Upazila Awami League, Mahfuzur Rahman Manju said, "As always, no one can create an artificial crisis by stocking onions in the country, no one can make huge money by charging high prices and endangering the common people, that is why the government The company is importing onions from India. More consignments of onions are likely to arrive in phases."
