Five arrested for insulting national anthem on TikTok

Dhaka, August 24: Police have arrested five people for making a video on a social media TikTok while insulting the national anthem. They were detained from various places in Bogra district on Monday, AIG (Media and Public Relations) of the police headquarters Md Sohail Rana said on Tuesday (August 24).

"A video posted on TikTok showed some youths standing in front of the Shaheed Minar at a government primary school in Bogra district, distorting and mocking the national anthem of Bangladesh. This post came to the notice of the Media and Public Relations Wing of the Bangladesh Police. The video was sent to Bogra District Sadar Police Station OC Md. Selim Reza and the Media and Public Relations Wing directed to find the youths concerned and bring them under the law quickly," he said.

After receiving the message, OC Md. Selim Reza sent a team of police led by Bogra Sadar Police Station SI Zakir Al Ahsan to the field. They identified the culprits and conducted an overnight operation on Monday and arrested five people from different parts of the district.

The arrested are Md. Mishkat Hossain, Md. Nur-e-Islam Alif, Md. Arif Ali, Alif Ahmed Sujan, and Mehedi Hasan Antor.

There is ‘The Bangladesh National Anthem, Flag and Emblem Order, 1972’ to take legal action against propaganda and disrespect against the national anthem, national flag and national emblem. In addition, there are clear provisions in the Digital Security Act regarding such crimes using any digital medium. Legal action is being taken against the detainees.
