Accident Five members of a family were killed in pickup-Laguna head-on collision in Sylhet
Own correspondent, Dhaka, 19 March 2024: Five members of the same family were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup and a Laguna in Sylhet's Jaintapur. The incident took place at Darbast area of Sylhet-Tamabil highway on Monday around 12:15 pm. The deceased were Santosh Patra's daughter Mangali Patra (50), Nanda Patra's wife Sabiti Patra, Suchita Patra's infant daughter Bijli (6 months), Krishna Patra's wife Sushmita Patra and Sukendu Patra's son Ritu Patra of Mati village in West Thakur of Chiknagul union of the upazila.
According to local sources, a pickup and a Laguna collided in front of the Sylhet Rural Electricity Office in Darbast area of the Sylhet-Tamabil highway on Monday around 12:15. Two died on the spot and three others died after being taken to the hospital.
The relatives of the deceased said that the family members were going from Chiknagul to Mokampunji of the upazila to attend a family function. The accident happened on the way.
Jaintapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam along with Police Force, a team of Tamabil Highway Police and General Secretary of Jaintapur Upazila Awami League M Liaqat Ali went to the spot after receiving the information. Meanwhile, locals blocked the Sylhet-Tamabil highway after the accident. Later, after the administration and local leaders assured the local people to withdraw the blockade, the traffic flow became normal.
