Foreign interference in elections will not be allowed: Momen

Dhaka, December 12: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen said that foreign interference and internal conspiracies will not be allowed in the upcoming national elections.

He said that the current government is committed to protecting human rights, justice and expression of opinion. Awami League believes in fair elections. "We are also committed to protecting voting rights."

He said this at a discussion meeting organized at Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Sunday (December 11). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized this seminar on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

In the president's speech, the foreign minister also said that some NGOs in Bangladesh publish human rights reports motivated by political purposes. A lot of their information is incorrect. He criticized the human rights situation in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Speaking as the chief guest at the seminar, Law Minister Anisul Haque said that the government is focusing on protecting human rights. The government has taken many initiatives for this purpose. We strive for the protection and welfare of human rights. I gave shelter to the Rohingya because I value human rights. He said that the government is committed to organize free and unfettered elections to protect people's rights.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said in the keynote speech at the seminar that Bangladesh constitutionally respects human rights and fundamental rights. The government is committed to poverty alleviation, child labor eradication, and social security.

He said that the United Nations has complained about 76 missing persons in Bangladesh. Ten of them have been found. Another complaint is 28 years old, when the Awami League government was not in power.

Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Dr. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Director of BILIA Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Ambassador Abdul Hannan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Women's Progress Association Rokeya Kabir spoke in the seminar.
