Foundation stone laid for India-funded Hi-Tech Park in Keraniganj

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 13: Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has laid the foundation stone for a Government of India-funded high-tech park at the Keraniganj Jhilmil project on the other side of the Buriganga. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami was present there.

During the inauguration, the Minister of State said the high-tech park will play an important role in building a technology-friendly skilled manpower. He said that there is no alternative to skilled manpower to bring home the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. If we can work together to create and develop new entrepreneurs in the ICT sector, it will be possible to meet the challenges of the future quickly.

Nasrul Hamid said, "Keraniganj is a very traditional town. The light engineering and industrial sector are showing the global dream of Made in Bangladesh by holding the hand of Made in Jinjira. The small scale industries here have brought Keraniganj a distinct identity in the whole of Bangladesh. Keraniganj will be one of the driving forces in fulfilling the dream of digital Bangladesh, and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the Prime Minister's adviser on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), is playing a behind-the-scenes role as the mastermind behind building this digital Bangladesh. Under his direct supervision Bangladesh has now gone digital and Bangladesh is dreaming of tackling the Fourth Industrial Revolution."

The construction of the seven-storey, 15,000-square-foot high-tech park will cost around Rs 200 crore. From here 1000 people will get training opportunities every year and 3000 people will get permanent direct and indirect employment opportunities here.

After the inauguration ceremony, the Minister of State for ICT and High Commissioner of India visited the artistic beauty of Doleshwar Hanafia Jame Masjid (The Red Mosque) in Keraniganj.
