Four more arrested in communal attack in Noakhali, 5 remanded

Dhaka, November 2: The court has remanded five accused in the case of communal attack in Noakhali's Begumganj. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kazi Sonia Akhter and Senior Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Mohammad Mahibullah issued the remand order after a hearing on Monday (November 1). District Superintendent of Police Md Shahidul Islam confirmed the matter on Monday evening.

He said the court remanded Mozammel Hossain and Belal Hossain in case number 24 of Begumganj, two days to Zahirul Islam and Arafat Hossain and one day to Md. Parvez Hossain in case number eight of Chatkhil.

Meanwhile, four more people have been arrested in the last 24 hours, the district police superintendent said. He said a total of 226 people have been arrested in 31 cases of religious incitement and assault in the district. So far 35 people have been remanded. The law and order situation in the district is now normal.

Senbagh police arrested the former Union Parishad chairman from Sebarhat in Senbagh upazila on Sunday (October 24th) at 8:30 pm.

The arrested are Harun Aur Rashid, Jamaat leader and former UP chairman of Beejbagh union in Senbagh upazila; Md. Anwarul Islam (29), son of late Haji Mofiz Ullah of Kalikapur village in Begumganj; Md. Abu Taleb (47), son of late Abul Khair of Alipur village in Chaumuhani municipality; And Md. Farhad (27), son of late Syed Ahmed of Hajipur village in Chaumuhani municipality.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shahidul Islam said police arrested three accused from Begumganj Upazila on Sunday after seeing video footage of the attack on the puja mandapa. In the afternoon, they were arrested and sent to jail through the judicial court.

Senbagh Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Patwari said the former UP chairman was arrested from Sebarhat in the upazila on Sunday night on charges of being involved in attacks and vandalism of puja mandals and temples in Chaumuhani and killing two people.
