Dhaka, April 29: Gas has been found in another new well named Ilisha-1 in Bhola. BAPEX started lighting the fire in the new well on Friday (April 28) morning. The new well is the ninth well in Bhola district and the third well in Bhola Sadar upazila. Locals are seeing the development potential as gas is discovered one after another in the district.

According to BAPEX sources, the new well is located in Malerhat village of Ward No. 1 of Paschim Elisha Union of Sadar Upazila of Bhola. At the end of digging at a depth of 3,475 meters, the experimental fire started. BAPEX believes that it is possible to extract 20-22 million cubic feet of gas per day from this new well.

Local residents Yunuf, Rubel and Mosharef said, "A new well has been dug in our area. We are very happy and excited to find gas in that well. There will be a lot of development in our area due to getting gas."

Another person named Md. Russell said, "Gas wells are being found one after another in Bhola. However, the people of different unions of the district have not got the benefits of gas even today. We want the people of all the unions of the district to get the benefits of gas."

BAPEX Geological Department General Manager Md. Alamgir Hossain said that the first test work in Ilisha-1 well has started from Friday. Two more tests will be conducted. However, we initially think that it will be possible to extract 20-22 million cubic feet of gas daily from this well. We estimate that there are 180-200 billion cubic meters (BCM) or more of gas reserves. After completion of three tests the amount of stock can be confirmed. On March 9, BAPEX started drilling a new well named Ilisha-1.
