Gold bars worth Tk 5 crore recovered from passenger

Dhaka, November 18: Dhaka Custom House Preventive Team has recovered 60 gold bars worth Tk 5.17 crore from a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday (November 18).

Marufur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the preventive team of Dhaka Customs House, said that based on a secret information received by the customs commissioner, the officers of the smuggling prevention team kept monitoring the situation at different points of the airport.

A passenger named Mohabbat Ali, who arrived in Dhaka on an Emirates EK-572 flight from Dubai at 7.20 am, was taken to the boarding bridge and his body was searched.

At that time, 60 gold bars were found hidden in different parts of his body with scotch tape. The total weight of these is 6.9 kilograms and the estimated market value is about Tk 5 crore 17 lakh 50 thousand, according to the customs.

According to customs, Mohabbat Ali went to Dubai a week ago. Action is being taken under the Customs Act regarding the recovered gold and a case is being prepared in this regard.
