Govt developing Coast Guard as three-dimensional force: Prime Minister

She said, "No one will be left behind. The Coast Guard will acquire the capability to meet the challenges of the 21st century by developing modern technology-based ships, helicopters and communication systems in the force."

The Prime Minister said that in order to modernize and strengthen the Bangladesh Coast Guard, advanced technology ships, maritime surveillance systems, hovercrafts and high-speed boats are going to be added to this force very soon.

She said, "Apart from this, approval has been given to procure four more OPVs, 2 maritime version helicopters suitable for deep sea patrolling of the Coast Guard for the safety of the public engaged in sea-based professions and waterways."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing the Chief Guest at a function organized on the occasion of the '29th Foundation Anniversary and Coast Guard Day 2024' of Bangladesh Coast Guard at the Coast Guard Headquarters at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday.

On the same occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the V-SATNET communication system and six stations and outposts and their infrastructural development projects to enhance the operational capability of the Coast Guard.

She said the inclusion of V-SATNET communication system which will connect the Coast Guard with Bangabandhu Satellite-1 and enhance communication and operational capabilities. In-principle approval has already been given for the formation of an Aviation Wing with two Helicopter Wings which will make the Coast Guard a three-dimensional force.

The Prime Minister presented Bangladesh Coast Guard Medal, Bangladesh Coast Guard (Service) Medal, President Coast Guard Medal and President Coast Guard (Service) Medal to the current and former Coast Guard members for their bravery and contribution.
