Dhaka, July 29: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has announced that the second dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered in the country soon. This information was given in the regular Corona Bulletin of the DGHS on Wednesday (July 28) at noon by the spokesperson and line director Prof. Dr. Nazmul Islam.

"We started the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccination activities, but had to stop later due to lack of vaccine supply. Currently we have received some vaccines from ally Japan. Hopefully, we will be able to start vaccination activities soon," he said.

Asked the reason why the activities have not started even though the vaccine has arrived a long time ago, Nazmul Islam said, "Due to internal processes we are not able to start yet. Waiting for some more vaccines to come. However, this activity will start soon," he said.

"We will get some more Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines in a few days due to the multifaceted measures of the government. Hopefully the doubt regarding the second dose of the vaccine will end sooner rather than later," he added.

"As long as every human being is not protected from coronavirus infection, none of us is safe. So everyone has to come forward to deal with the infection. And vaccination is one of the protection tools. Besides, we have to continue all kinds of efforts, including wearing masks and following the hygiene rules," the DGHS spokesperson said.

On July 24, 2,45,200 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, a gift from the Japanese government, arrived in Dhaka through the COVAX facility.
