Hasina's France visit: Three agreements signed between Dhaka and Paris

Dhaka, November 12: Bangladesh and France have signed three agreements on financial and technical assistance. The agreements were signed on Wednesday during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's state visit to the country. Under the two agreements, France will provide 330 million euros (Tk 32,48,04,67,116.90) to Dhaka to support Bangladesh's development projects.

Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Fatima Yasmin told a news briefing that out of 330 million euros, the Agency France Development (AFD) would provide 200 million euros for financial assistance to cope with the coronavirus pandemic and 130 million euros for the Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project. The project has already been launched and is in progress.

She said that with the latest aid, the total assistance provided by AFD to Bangladesh stands at over 1 billion euros. The organisation has already paid 800 million euros. She further said that Bangladesh is the most supported country of AFD in South Asia.

The ERD secretary said they would sign a host country agreement with France in the near future. Discussions are currently in the final stages.

Besides, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Md. Mokammel Hossain said that Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has signed an agreement with the French Civil Aviation Authority to strengthen cooperation for exchange of experience and training for its employees.

He added that they are assisting in organizing various events, including air transport security. Bangladesh is making significant progress in the civil aviation sector.
