Maldives-Bangladesh High Commissioner of Maldives holds meeting with Speaker Shirin Sharmin
Dhaka, September 28: The Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury paid a courtesy call on the Maldivian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiruzimath Sameer. The meeting took place on Monday (September 27) at the Speaker's office in the Sangsad Bhawan.
During the meeting, they discussed economic development and expansion of trade and commerce, Covid-19 vaccination activities, Parliamentary Friendship Group, Bangladeshi labour market in Maldives, etc.
The speaker said the government has taken the Covid-19 vaccination program as a challenge. The government is working relentlessly to bring people across the country under vaccination. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken timely steps to maintain the continuity of development in Bangladesh and to keep the daily life of people of different classes and professions normal despite the global recession prevailing in the Covid-19 period.
Recalling the continuation of strong diplomatic relations with Bangladesh, the Maldivian High Commissioner said the hospitality of the people of Bangladesh and the breathtaking natural beauty of the country are truly remarkable. She also lauded the fact that the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been celebrated following the hygiene rules even in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.
The Speaker thanked the Maldivian government for supporting the Bangladeshi candidate as the Regional Director of the World Health Organization's Southeast Regional Office. She said Bangladeshi workers have been working very efficiently in the Maldivian labor market.
Meanwhile, the Speaker sought the continuous cooperation of Maldives in the economic development of Bangladesh and expansion of trade and commerce. On the other hand, the Maldivian High Commissioner expressed hope that the cooperation between the two neighboring countries on issues of mutual interest would continue.
