Hilsa fishing banned for two months in six districts from March 1

Dhaka, March 1: In order to conserve fishes, all kinds of fishing, including hilsa, will be banned in five hilsa sanctuaries in six districts of the country. An order to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Sunday (February 28).

A press release sent by Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Iftekhar Hossain said that all kinds of fishing including hilsa will be banned in five hilsa sanctuaries in six districts of the country from March 1 to April 30. Under this ban, all kinds of fishing including hilsa will be stopped in the rivers of Barisal, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Bhola, Shariatpur and Patuakhali districts.

The five sanctuary areas are - 100 km of the lower basin of the Meghna River from Shatnal in Chandpur district to Char Alexander in Laxmipur district; 90 km area of ​​Shahbazpur tributary of Meghna river from Madanpur or Char Ilisha to Char Pial in Bhola district; The area of ​​the river Tentulia is about 100 km from Veduria in Bhola district to Char Rustam in Patuakhali district.

Besides, it is located between Naria and Vederganj upazilas of Shariatpur district and Matlab upazila of Chandpur district.

Every year for two months in March and April, the catchment of all kinds of fish including hilsa is strictly prohibited. At that time, catching all kinds of fish including hilsa in the sanctuaries of hilsa is a punishable crime. Anyone violating this prohibition shall be liable to a minimum of one year to a maximum of two years rigorous imprisonment or a fine of up to five thousand rupees or both.
