Dhaka, March 4: Several hundreds of bikers have formed a human chain in Dhaka to demand the revision of the draft policy of motorcycle movement and the permission of motorcycle movement on the Padma Bridge. They held this program in front of the National Press Club on Friday (March 3).

Groups such as Bike BD, KB Riders, National Bikers, BD Bikers and BMRS and some ordinary bikers also took part in the human chain.

It said, "We have come to know from the media that a draft motorcycle traffic policy has been prepared. The draft policy states that motorcycles cannot be driven at a speed of more than 30 km per hour in the city. The maximum speed limit for motorcycles on highways is 60 km. For motorcycles on highways, the minimum capacity is 126 cc. Motorcycles will be allowed to ply. No rider can be transported on highways without a driver. Motorcycles will not be allowed to ply on highways for 10 days before and after Eid and festivals. Several other such policies have been drafted, with several irrelevant issues. These policies are for cities and It will not increase the safety of the traffic on the highways, on the contrary it will increase the suffering! It is not possible to reduce traffic congestion and accidents by legislating only on motorcycles."

The bikers said, "In residential areas, the maximum speed is 30 kmph, but it should be applied to all vehicles, not just motorcycles. In all cities in our country, unregistered autorickshaws, Lagunas, CNG mixers run at a speed of 40-50 kmph. Walking in local areas without footpaths. It's dangerous to do now. Legislate these. It will also reduce traffic jams and accidents."

They said, "Death rate in motorcycle accidents is increasing, but is it for motorcycles? Or for other vehicles, check that first. Cutting off heads for headaches is not a solution. In the era of Digital Bangladesh, judging only on CC, this decision is inconsistent. Less CC bikes can be risky on the highway. But in today's world there are many low CC motorcycles that have as good brakes and balance as a 150 CC bike. So, it is not right to make this decision directly based on CC alone."
