Dhaka, February 14: Newly elected President Md. Sahabuddin said, I did not think that I will become the President. And I did not know about getting nominated for this position before Sunday (February 12). He said this in an interview given to the media on Monday (February 13).

Sahabuddin said Sunday was the last day to submit nomination papers. He (Sheikh Hasina) said that he nominated me after analyzing the judgment on behalf of the party. He didn't tell me anything before that. I don't know if he said anything to the senior leaders or not. I couldn't figure it out. Didn't even give a chance to fire. I could not imagine that I would be His Excellency the President 'to be very frank'.

In response to a question, he said, as President, there is very little scope within the statutory rules in the Constitution to interfere in any executive work of the state. The President is a symbol of unity and as a symbol of that unity the President performs his duties for the sake of fair elections. The questionable election should not take place. There should be no interference. A president sees to it that the administration impartially carries out the duties assigned to them in the elections. It is an important responsibility to say.

Referring to BNP, the newly elected President said that those who are still saying that they will not participate in the elections, they have no option but not to participate in the elections. The caretaker government they are talking about has been removed from our constitution through the fifteenth amendment. Now there is no chance to go to that place.

He also said that now we have the form of the constitution, in that form, there will be elections as per what is said in the election chapter. People own the government, so what to do, come to power with the verdict of the people. Only one thing has to be ensured - fair and impartial elections, fear-free elections, large number of voters, ensuring a fair election.

None of those whose names were discussed as the new president of the country got the nomination of the ruling Awami League. On Sunday, on the last day of submitting nominations for this post, the name of the former commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Md. Sahabuddin, was suddenly revealed.
