Dhaka, September 10: There is panic among the Bangladeshi residents near the border due to firing and mortar shelling from Myanmar in the Naikshyongchari border area of Bandarban. Bullets fired from Myanmar have already landed inside Bangladesh several times. In this incident, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, "We informed Myanmar first. If it happens again, the matter will be reported in international forum."

He said this in response to a question from journalists at the end of a seminar titled 'Socio-economic status and security of religious minority women in Bangabandhu's Sonar Bengal: Vision-2041' organized by Bangladesh Mahila Oikya Parishad at Shahbagh National Museum in the capital on Saturday (September 10).

The home minister said, "One or two shells crossed the Myanmar border and came close to our border. We have protested. Our BGB (Border Guard Force) has protested to their BGP (Border Guard Force). The Myanmar ambassador has been sent a message through our Ministry of External Affairs, saying everything. It has happened. We have protested at all levels from the state level. We think they will be restrained soon."

Myanmar is shelling again and again in the same way. In that case, when asked whether the matter will be raised in the international forum, the minister said, "We have called them (Myanmar) first. If it happens again, we will inform the matter."

Heavy firing and clashes between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar security forces have been going on for a long time. Clashes broke out inside Myanmar approximately three kilometers east-south opposite BGB BOP responsible border pillar 36 of Ward No. 3 of Ghumdhum Union on Friday. An estimated 400-500 rounds of small arms fire and 20-25 mortar shell fire were heard during the clashes between the two sides. In the evening, a small arms fire was heard in the neighborhood of Ward No. 2 Tambru Ghona. This has again caused panic among the locals.

Earlier on August 28, two mortar shells fired by the Myanmar Army landed in Tumbru Uttarpara Jame Masjid area of the same union. There were no casualties as the shells did not explode. Later on September 3 at 9:30 am, two shells fired from warplanes fell in the area between border pillars 40-41 under Reju Amtali BGB BOP of Ward No. 8.
