India hands over 20 lakh gift Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh

Dhaka, January 21: Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami has officially handed over the 2 million (20 lakh) doses of coronavirus vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift from the Government of India. Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Foreign Minister Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam received the vaccine at noon on Thursday (January 21) at the state guest house Padma in Ramna, Dhaka. They thanked the Government of India for the gift.

Health Minister Zahid Malek said, "India stood by Bangladesh during the Liberation War. Today, they stood by us during the pandemic. India has rekindled friendship with this gift of coronavirus vaccine. Through this, the friendship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the friendship between the people of India and Bangladesh went a few steps further."

"Another five million vaccines will come to Bangladesh from India this month. Then we will have a total of seven million vaccines. Then we will be able to vaccinate three and a half million people at once. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the vaccination program through video conferencing," he said.

Foreign Minister Abdul Momen said, "This gift will further strengthen the friendship between Bangladesh and India. In the future, the two countries will be able to work together."

"Bangladesh is ranked 20th in the world in the list of corona-infected countries. Now we have an agreement with India to import corona vaccines. We will import vaccines according to our demand in phases," he said.

Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami said, "Talks have been held with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Prime Minister of India on the import of coronavirus vaccine. Out of this, two million vaccines have been sent as a gift by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This gift will further strengthen the friendship between the two countries."

Earlier, at 11:20 am on Thursday, the first flight of Ticker arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special Air India flight. The flight left Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for Bangladesh at 8 am.

It was also reported on the Facebook page of the Indian High Commission at 10:12 am. There is a picture of an airplane with vaccines, the destination is Bangladesh! The consignment of Covid made in India has left for Bangladesh.
