India to send 1.2 million doses of Covid vaccine

Dhaka, March 25: India is sending another 12 lakh corona vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift. The vaccine is expected to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow, Friday, the great Independence Day (March 26). This information was given by Shamsul Haque, Line Director, EPI Program, Health Office.

The vaccine could arrive by noon tomorrow, the official said. However, we have not yet received information on which flight or when the vaccine will arrive.

Earlier, on January 21, India sent the first 2 million doses of Covid vaccine (Covishield) to Bangladesh as a greeting. Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami handed over the vaccine at a function at the state guest house Padma. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Health Minister Zahid Malek, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Shahriar Alam and other officials of the concerned ministry were present on the occasion.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals, the Ministry of Health and the Serum Institute of India signed a tripartite agreement on November 5. Under the agreement, Seram Institute will export 30 million vaccines to Bangladesh. These are the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines made by the Serum Institute of India.

So far, a total of 9 million doses of vaccine have been received from India. 20 lakh doses came first on January 21 as a gift. The first consignment of vaccines purchased with the government's money comes on January 25 with 5 million doses, the last on February 23 comes with 20 lakh doses. Now 12 lakh doses are coming.

A total of 5,069,049 people have so far been vaccinated in the country by taking part in the national vaccination program against coronavirus which started on February 7.
