Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 18 January 2024: Jatiya Party (Japa) chairman Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) has been elected as the leader of the opposition by his party. Besides, the party's co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud has been nominated as the deputy leader of the opposition and general secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu as the chief whip of the opposition.

This decision was taken at the Jatiya Party's parliamentary party meeting held at the office of the Deputy Leader of the Opposition at the Sangsad Bhavan on Thursday, January 18. This information was given by Japa General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu. The meeting was chaired by GM Quader.

In the meeting, party member of parliament Hafizuddin Ahmed was nominated opposition whip. This decision will be informed in writing to the Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. In the 12th National Assembly elections, Jatiya Party won only 11 seats. Amid confusion over who will sit in the opposition seats in the new parliament, three important posts of leader, deputy leader and chief whip were elected at the Jatiya Party's parliamentary party meeting on Thursday. Now it depends on the speaker.
