Dhaka, Nov 4: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the three India-assisted development projects jointly inaugurated will bring welfare to the people of the sub-region as well as the people of both Bangladesh and India.

The Prime Minister said this while paying a courtesy call on Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma at her official residence Ganabhaban on Friday evening.

She said, "India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I jointly launched three development projects on November 1. I hope these projects will benefit the people of both countries and the sub-region.”

The three projects are: 12.24 km Akhaura-Agartala cross-border rail link, Khulna-Mongla port rail line; and Unit-II of Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant. Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim shared this information at the press briefing after the meeting.

The Prime Minister also thanked the Government of India and Narendra Modi for supporting the candidature of Saima Wazed as the new WHO Regional Director for the South East Asia region for a five-year term from 2024. The election was held on November 1 and Sheikh Hasina's only daughter Saima Wazed won by defeating the only candidate from Nepal.

The Prime Minister said that general elections are approaching in both the countries. Both countries should be aware of each other's sensitivities.

In the meeting, they expressed satisfaction with the status of bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador-at-Large Mohammad Ziauddin and Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Mohammad Salahuddin were present on the occasion.
