Justice Nazmul Ahsan dies before taking oath

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 4: Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan, newly appointed to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, died before taking oath.

He died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital at 6:15 am on Friday (February 4). (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un). The news has been confirmed by the special officer of the Supreme Court, Barrister Mohammad Saifur Rahman.

On January 9, four judges, including Nazmul Ahasan, were appointed as judges in the Appellate Division. Although three judges took oath on the same day, Nazmul Ahsan could not take oath. He was hospitalized with Covid-19. The three sworn in judges are Justice Borhan Uddin, M. Enayetur Rahim and Krishna Debnath.

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has expressed grief over the death of Nazmul Ahsan. He prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.

Nazmul Ahsan was born on February 15, 1955. He passed LLB after obtaining BA (Hons) and postgraduate degree. Then he joined the legal profession. On March 18, 1986, Nazmul Ahsan was enrolled as a lawyer in the district court. He was enlisted as a lawyer in the High Court Division on January 22, 1994 and in the Supreme Court on December 13, 2009.

Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court Division on April 18, 2010. Later on April 15, 2012, he became permanent. Justice Ahsan was scheduled to retire on February 14 this year.
