Dhaka, December 11: BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital for nearly four months, has been shifted from the cabin to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) after her condition deteriorated.

BNP media cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan told bdnews24.com that Khaleda Zia was shifted to CCU at 6:30 pm as per the recommendation of the medical board.

The 78-year-old former prime minister is suffering from various diseases including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart and eye problems.

The BNP Chairperson has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since August 9 due to various physical complications.

Since his conditional release from prison in 2020, the BNP chairperson has been undergoing treatment at a hospital under a medical board headed by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.

On February 8, 2018, Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years imprisonment and sent to Old Dhaka Jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. Later in the same year, he was convicted in another corruption case.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the government through an executive order on March 25, 2020 temporarily released Khaleda Zia on the condition that she stay at her home in Gulshan and not leave the country.
