Illegal Possession Life imprisonment to be maximum penalty for illegal possession
Dhaka, April 10: The cabinet has given final approval to the draft of the 'Production, Storage, Transfer, Transport, Supply, Distribution and Marketing of Food (Prevention of Harmful Activities) Act, 2023', with life imprisonment as the maximum penalty for illegal stocking of food.
This approval was given at the cabinet meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan on Monday (April 10) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain gave this information to the reporters at the Secretariat.
He said, the draft law states that if a person stores more than the amount of foodstuff prescribed by the government or disobeys any instructions of the government regarding stocking, he will be punished with life imprisonment or a maximum of 14 years rigorous imprisonment and fine.
