Dhaka, July 28: The light pressure created in the Bay of Bengal has become an acute light pressure after gaining more energy. It is now located in the southwestern part of Bangladesh (Khulna and Jessore). Due to its impact, local warning signal number 3 has been maintained in the country's seaports and coastal areas. At the same time, heavy to very heavy rains may continue in some parts of the four divisions, meteorologists said.

At the same time, the meteorological department also warned of landslides in Chittagong. Heavy rains have already caused landslides in Cox's Bazar and Teknaf.

Due to light pressure, it rained in all the divisions except Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions from 6 am on Tuesday to 6 am on Wednesday. Some parts of Chittagong, Khulna and Barisal divisions received heavy rainfall (more than 89 mm). The highest rainfall was recorded in Teknaf, where 328 mm of rainfall was recorded. Besides, 115 mm rain fell in Cox's Bazar, 125 mm in Kutubdia, 155 mm in Mongla, 252 mm in Patuakhali and 262 mm in Khepupara. Dhaka has received 22 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department.

"The light pressure located in the North Bay and adjoining areas is presently located in the adjoining areas in the south-western part of Bangladesh as an acute light pressure. Monsoon winds are active over Bangladesh and prevail in the North Bay," said Meteorologist Monwar Hossain.

"As it rises to the ground, the apparent light pressure is no longer likely to become stronger and lower. It could move to West Bengal, India by tomorrow. As a result, it will rain for the next few days. Local warning signal Number 3 issued in seaports has been maintained even today. Inland river ports have been asked to display warning signal number 1. At the same time, Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Barisal divisions may receive heavy rains even today," he added.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 9 am on Wednesday said that most parts of Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions and many parts of Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusts. At the same time, there may be heavy to very heavy rain in some parts of the country.
