Metro Rail is a new addition to Smart Bangladesh: PM

She said, Bangladesh has entered the era of high-speed rail through Metrorail. Metrorail will run at a speed of 110 km per hour. The Prime Minister said this in her speech at a rally on the occasion of the inauguration of the Metrorail on Wednesday (December 28) at noon.

Earlier, at around 11:30 PM, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took her seat on the stage of the rally. Before that, she reached the inauguration venue. After 11 am, she unveiled the replica of the inaugural plaque to the public. She was accompanied by her younger sister Sheikh Rehana. Prayers were offered after unveiling the replica.

Recitation of the Holy Qur'an was performed at the beginning of the assembly. ABM Amin Ullah Noori, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department delivered the welcome speech.

JICA chief representative in Bangladesh Ichiguchi Tamohide, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori gave greetings.

After the ceremony at Uttara, the metro rail will officially run towards Agargaon from Diabari (Uttara) station at around 2 pm on Wednesday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members and invited guests were the passengers on the first train. However, common passengers will be able to board the metro rail from Thursday.

Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader, Secretary of Roads and Highways Department ABM Aminullah Noori, MD of Metrorail Company MN Siddique were present at the opening ceremony.
