Motorcycles can be ridden on highways with police permission

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 4: Motorcycle ride-sharing will not be allowed outside the permitted area  Three days before the holy Eid-ul-Azha, on the day of Eid and three days after the Eid, motorcycles will not be allowed on the highways across the country without a r valid reason. Besides, motorcycles registered in one district cannot be driven to another district. However, in case of logical and unavoidable need, the motorcycle can be ridden with the permission of the police.

Heavy goods trucks, covered vans and lorries carrying goods other than daily commodities, raw materials, medicines, fuel oil, garments, exports, perishable goods and livestock are prohibited from operating on highways across the country for three days before Eid, on Eid and three days after Eid. Law enforcement agencies will take necessary actions against those who disobey these instructions.

The decisions were taken at a virtual meeting chaired by Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader at the ministry's conference room on Sunday (July 3) to make the Eid safe and uninterrupted.

At the meeting, the minister said, animal markets cannot be set up on the highways. At the same time, he requested the transport owners and workers not to transport the animals in unfit vehicles. He also requested the concerned ministry to take initiative to keep the CNG filling station open at all times. He also called on BGMEA and BKMEA leaders to give phased leave to garment workers.

Obaidul Quader said that many vehicles carrying kurbani cattle will come to Dhaka on this route as the Padma Bridge has been opened. This issue must be taken into consideration. Besides, the traffic pressure on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Road (Expressway) will increase.

He directed the concerned to increase the number of booths in the toll plazas of Bangabandhu Bridge, Meghna and Gomoti Bridge including toll plazas of Padma Bridge and Expressway. The minister also directed the concerned to take immediate action in case of any allegation of extra fare on public transport.
