Municipality elections: Fourth phase of vote in on February 14

Dhaka, January 4: The fourth phase of municiaplity elections to determine the leadership in 56 civic bodies will take place on February 14.

The last date for submission of nomination papers in these municipalities is January 17, the last date for selection is January 19 and the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers is January 26. This information was given by the senior secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Md. Alamgir on Sunday (January 3).

He said polling would be held in 31 of these municipalities through EVM and in 25 through ballot papers from 8 am to 4 pm.

Meanwhile, the third phase of voting in 64 municipalities will be held on January 30. The last day for submission of nomination papers in these municipalities is January 10. In this regard, the senior secretary of the EC said, polling will be held in these municipalities from 8 am to 4 pm. All municipalities will vote by ballot.

According to the EC schedule, the first phase was held on December 28 in 25 municipalities. In the second phase, voting will be held on January 18 in 61 municipalities. Of these, voting will be done in 29 municipalities through EVM and in 32 municipalities through ballot.

According to the commission, according to the law, the elected mayors and councilors of the municipality are required to cast their votes within 90 days before the expiration of their term. In this case, the term of more than 250 mayors and councilors of the municipality is coming to an end by mid-February.
