Murder again in Rohingya camp: 4 arrested

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 19: Miscreants killed a Rohingya youth in Ukhiya Rohingya camp of Cox's Bazar.

Deceased Syed Hossain (23) was the son of the late Jamil Hossain of A-Block of Tajnimarkhola Rohingya Camp-19, Thaingkhali. He died of excessive bleeding after sustaining the injuries. The incident happened around 7 pm on Tuesday.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Farooq Ahmed of the 8 Armed Police Battalion (APBN) assigned to the Rohingya camp said Syed Hussain was hit in the neck with a sharp knife and shot in front of a shop in A-Block of Camp-19.

The Superintendent of Police also said that Syed Hossain's father Jamil Hossain died at the hands of the miscreants earlier. Syed Hossain was quick to arrest the accused in the murder case.

It is initially known that he was killed because of that incident. The police quickly reached the spot after receiving the news. The situation in the area is currently calm. Police have stepped up patrolling and are trying to nab those involved.

Before this last Saturday night, Thaingkhali No. 13 Tajnimarkhola Rohingya Camp Head Majhi Mohammad Anwar and Block Majhi Maulvi Mohammad Yunus were hacked to death. The brother of deceased Anwar filed a case at Ukhia police station accusing 20 people in this incident. Meanwhile, members of the Armed Police Battalion (8 APBN) have arrested four accused in the case.

APBN Assistant Superintendent of Police (Ops and Media) Farooq Ahmed confirmed that they were arrested from Camps 13 and 19 on Tuesday (October 18).

The arrested are Samsu Alam (52), son of late Kala Mia of Camp-13, Rashid Ahmed (53), son of late Sabbir Ahmed, Mahbubur Rahman (28), son of late Maulvi Zubair Ahmed and Nazir Ahmed (47), son of late Ali Ahmed of Camp-19.

The arrested were handed over to Ukhia police station after the legal process and the operation to arrest the rest of the accused is continuing, the official said.
