Naogaon: Trader held for illegally stocking goods worth Tk 2 cr for Ramadan

Dhaka, Jan 26: A businessman has been arrested for illegally stocking goods worth around Tk 2 crore ahead of Ramadan in Naogaon's Manda. All the goods stored by him were also seized.

Manda upazila administration conducted this operation against illegal stockpiling on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 2 am, the upazila administration raided two godowns of an organization called Masud Enterprises in Sonapur and Kalitla Bazar areas of Paranpur Union of the upazila. Mobile Court Executive Magistrate and Manda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Laila Anjuman Banu led the drive. Meanwhile, UNO arrested Masud Rana (45), the owner of Masud Enterprise, for illegally stocking daily necessities. Masud Rana's house is in Sonapur village of Paranpur union of upazila. His father's name is Mansoor Ali.

According to upazila administration sources, the upazila administration found a large amount of food stock in Paranpur Union on Wednesday evening based on secret information. Based on that information, an anti-hoarding operation was conducted in the godown of Masud Enterprises in Sonapur village.

From that godown, 13,135 litres of soybean oil, 1,28,000 kg of wheat, 8,000 kg of flour, 27,175 kg of anchor dal (chickpea), 4,050 kg of sugar, 4,700 kg of boots, 5,920 kg of palm oil and 1,200 kg of salt was seized, the price of which is Tk 1 crore 5 lakh.

Before the end of the operation, at that moment the information of another godown came to the mobile court. On the basis of that information, a second round of overnight raid was conducted at the godown of Masud Enterprises' owner Masud Rana in Kalitala Bazar area.
