Narayanganj clash: Two cases registered against 10,000 accused

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 3: About 10,000 people have been charged in two separate cases in connection with the clash between police and BNP activists in Narayanganj.

Meanwhile, in the case filed by the elder brother of Shaon Pradhan, who was killed in the clash, about 5,000 people have been shown as accused, including the names of 71 people in the case filed by the police as plaintiffs.

As many as 71 names, including Narayanganj District BNP Acting Convener Monirul Islam Robi, Member Secretary Mamun Mahmud, Joint Convener Zahid Hasan Rozel, Metropolitan BNP Acting General Secretary Abdur Sabur Khan Sentu, Vice President Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Vice President Ataur Rahman Mukul, Organizing Secretary Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu and district youth member secretary Moshiur Rahman Roni, are mentioned in the list of accused.

Milan Hossain, the elder brother of Shaon Pradhan who was killed in Thursday's clash, filed a case that night as the plaintiff. Five thousand anonymous BNP activists have been shown as accused in this case.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Administration) Md. Amir Khosru said on Friday (September 2) afternoon that Shaon's elder brother had filed a case as the plaintiff. Unknown persons have been accused in this case. No one has been charged in the case.

Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamrul filed the other case as the plaintiff, alleging assault with intent to kill the police. About 5,000 leaders and activists have been shown as accused in this case. Names of 71 people have been mentioned in the case.

In this regard, Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Amir Khosru said that a case has been filed at Sadar Model Police Station on charges of assault, vandalism, and obstruction of duty. Seventy-one people have been named in the case. However, for the sake of investigation, he did not immediately reveal the name of any accused. Among them, 10 people were arrested in the case filed by the police and they were sent to the court on Friday asking for 10 days remand. The remand hearing will be held tomorrow, Sunday.
