Padma Bridge | Motorcycle Nearly five thousand motorcycles crossed the Padma Bridge in 8 hours
Dhaka, April 20: Motorcycle movement has started on Padma Bridge after a long time. Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, motorcycles are plying through the Padma Bridge subject to certain conditions from 6 am on Thursday (April 20). Around 5 thousand (4,849) motorcycles have crossed till 2 pm.
Out of this, 4 thousand 516 motorcycles entered the bridge through Mawa end and 333 motorcycles through Jazira end. About four lakh 80 thousand taka toll has been collected.
Additional Director of Padma Bridge, Amir Haider Chowdhury, said that due to heavy traffic of motorcycles in the morning, tolls were being collected through two toll plazas at the Mawa end. Now that the pressure of motorcycles is low, trolls are being collected through a plaza.
Incidentally, Padma Bridge was opened for traffic on June 26 last year. On the first day there was a motorcycle called Dhal. Two people died in a motorcycle accident at Padma Bridge that night. In this incident, the bridge department banned the movement of motorcycles on the Padma Bridge from the dawn of June 27.
After that there was no end to the misery of the bikers. Sometimes the bikers used to cross the Padma river in cargo trucks with the help of trawlers taking risks, sometimes evading the bridge authorities. After the suspension of motorcycle movement on the bridge, the bikers formed a human chain at Toll Plaza, Shariatpur and Dhaka at Jazira end of Padma Bridge to demand movement of motorcycles on the bridge.
Finally, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has allowed the movement of motorcycles on the Padma Bridge subject to conditions. If the bikers follow the conditions given by the authorities for the movement of motorcycles on the bridge, then the movement of motorcycles on the bridge will continue even after Eid. Otherwise, the movement of motorcycles on the bridge may be stopped again.
