Nepal will supply 50 MW electricity to Bangladesh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 26: Ambassador of Nepal Ghanshyam Bhandari said that Nepal will supply 40-50 MW electricity to Bangladesh at the moment, but the amount will increase after the completion of a mega project in their power sector.

The Ambassador of Nepal said this while meeting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Tuesday.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim informed the journalists about this information.

"After completing the project, Nepal will be able to provide more electricity to Bangladesh," Karim quoted the Nepalese ambassador as saying.

Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed his country's keen interest in using Bangladesh's Banglabandha Port for their export purposes. Because this port is closer to Nepal than Burimari port. Mentioning that Nepal is looking at Bangladesh in a special way, he said that his country wants to strengthen bilateral relations and economic cooperation.

Appreciating the cooperation of Bangladesh in the education sector, the Ambassador of Nepal said that many Nepali students are studying here for higher education.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated the newly appointed ambassador and assured Bangladesh of full cooperation in carrying out this duty.

She recalled Nepal's support of freedom fighters with arms and ammunition during Bangladesh's independence war in 1971, which she said was very important for the country.

Sheikh Hasina emphasized on connectivity among countries in the region, especially Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and India.

She emphasized on strengthening trade between Bangladesh and Nepal. The Prime Minister recalled the visit of the President of Nepal to Bangladesh during the 'Mujib Borsho' programme, which boosted bilateral relations between the two countries. She congratulated the President and Prime Minister of Nepal.
