New Market Clash New Market clash: Dhaka College students demand removal of DMP DC, ADC, OC
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 21: The students of Dhaka College have demanded the removal of Harun-ur-Rashid, DC of DMP's Ramna Zone, and S.M. Qayyum, OC of New Market Police Station, for the questionable behaviour of police during the clash between businessmen and students of Dhaka College in New Market area.
The agitating students made the demand at a press conference held at the Shaheed ANM Najib Uddin Khan Khurram Auditorium of Dhaka College on Wednesday (April 20) night. Sujoy Bala and Masum Billah, postgraduate students of Dhaka College, spoke at the press conference on behalf of the general students.
In the light of these incident, the students raised 10 demands. Those are —
1. The instigators and perpetrators of this heinous attack must be investigated and exemplary punishment must be ensured.
2. The New Market Business Association and the law enforcement agencies will have to take all the responsibility for the treatment of the injured students.
3. A proper ex-gratia must be provided to the family of courier service's deliveryman Nahid, who was killed in an attack allegedly by hawkers during the clash.
4. The attackers on the ambulance carrying a patient have to be identified by examining the video footage. At the same time they have to be brought under the law.
5. The DC, ADC and New Market Police Station's OC must be removed and the police administration should apologize to the college administration.
6. CCTV must be installed in every market and shop.
7. Formulation of code of conduct for officers and employees in each market and its proper implementation.
8. Restoration of occupied sidewalks, eviction of illegal car parking and extortion must be stopped.
9. Buyer harassment, sexual harassment of women should be stopped by forming a special monitoring cell to ensure the overall safety of the buyers.
10. The property lease of Dhaka College in Chandrima Super Market and New Super Market has to be cancelled and returned.
They also demanded the arrest of Advocate Maqbool Hossain, Farman Mollah, Jahangir Hossain, Amir Hossain Alamgir, Mizan, Tipu and others who were allegedly the main instigators and planners of the attack.
