Dhaka, March 2: From now on, train tickets cannot be purchased without registration through the National Identity Card. In the first phase, this system will be introduced only for inter-city train tickets, but it will also be implemented in local trains in a phased manner.

Minister of Railways Md Nurul Islam Sujan said these things in the chief guest's speech at the ceremony of handing over the 'POS machine' for the digitization of the ticket checking system and the ticketing of inter-city trains by registering through the National Identity Card (NID) at the capital's Kamalapur railway station on Wednesday.

Mentioning that this system has been introduced as part of the formation of 'Smart Railway', keeping the slogan of 'Ticket Jar Vromon Tar', the minister said, "We have undertaken several activities to increase the facilities of the passengers. In order to get out of the complaints that have been in getting the tickets so far, we have started the 'Ticket Jar Vromon Tar' programme, which is effective from today (March 1-23).

The Railway Minister said that the National Identity Card has been added to the ticket to ensure that the railway passengers can get more facilities and buy their own tickets without any black market.

He said that legal action will be taken against him as a ticketless passenger if he travels on another's ticket from now on. Besides, POS machines are being provided to TTEs, through which they will collect money from ticketless passengers and this money will be directly deposited in the government treasury. 100 POS machines have been handed over today. From now on, no need to go to the counter to cancel tickets online, tickets can be canceled online.
